

The Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh police has arrested a criminal wanted in a murder case that took place 26 years ago in thane district of Maharashtra. This accused was hiding to avoid arrest for the last 26 years after committing the murder. The STF said in a statement on tuesday night that the arrested accused has been identified as Vinod Kumar, a resident of Parsahatim village of Bhavaniganj police station area of Siddharthnagar district.
The case was registered under several sections
vinod kumar was arrested from his village on tuesday afternoon in a joint operation of the STF team and maharashtra Police. A case was registered against Kumar at Bhiwani City police station in thane district of maharashtra under Sections 302 (punishment for murder), 363 (punishment for kidnapping), 387 (putting person in fear of death or grievous hurt for extortion), 397 (robbery or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt), 120B (punishment for criminal conspiracy) and 34 (acts done by several persons with common intention) of the indian Penal Code.
Injected anesthesia and slit throat
According to the statement, during interrogation, the arrested accused told that on 28 May 1999 at around 11 pm, he and his associates Raju Mehta and Kamlesh called the owner of the textile factory, Jigar Mahendra Mehta, to the factory citing a problem related to electricity supply. According to the accused, after this, they beat him up and demanded a ransom of Rs 10 lakh from his family. The statement quoted the accused as saying that when he did not get the money, vinod kumar injected Mehta with an anaesthetic, then slit his throat and looted his belongings. They then took Mehta's body on a scooter and dumped it on a pipeline.
The accused was staying with relatives in Delhi
vinod kumar also told the police that he had fled from mumbai (after committing the crime) and was staying with his relatives in Delhi. When he felt that the police had stopped looking for him, he had started running a medicine shop near his village for the last few days.
