The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has achieved a significant success by arresting (deporting) a kingpin behind an international drug smuggling syndicate from malaysia with the assistance of other national and international agencies.

Cocaine seized from syndicate member's house in Navi Mumbai

It started with the seizure of about 200 grams of cocaine hidden in a projector from a parcel being sent from mumbai to australia via DHL courier on january 21, 2025. Adopting a bottom-up approach while investigating the case, the NCB seized 11.540 kg of cocaine, 4.9 kg of cannabis and 5.5 kg of cannabis gummies from the house of a syndicate member in Navi Mumbai.

Total 8 people arrested so far

The investigation revealed a well-planned international syndicate involved in smuggling cocaine from the US to india and its distribution in india and outside. The investigation further revealed the involvement of Clearing house Agents (CHA) and Hawala operators. A total of 8 people have been arrested so far and the kingpin who was in thailand after absconding from an old NCB case related to smuggling of LSD in 2021 was recently found in malaysia following a red notice issued by the NCB and has been brought to India.

Drug syndicate also has connection with USA

Investigation into the case has already revealed that the syndicate was operating for at least a year and several consignments of cocaine through air cargo were received in mumbai during this period. Interrogation of the kingpin brought from malaysia is likely to reveal more details about his operations including the source of drugs in the USA. Financial investigations into the case have already identified assets including properties and bank accounts in Thailand. Efforts are on to confiscate these properties. Earlier this month, the NCB succeeded in extraditing an accused involved in a drug smuggling case in Bengaluru from the UAE. Two look-out circulars were already issued by the NCB against naveen Chichkar. A few days ago, naveen Chichkar's father Guru Chichkar committed suicide.
