Order to keep weekly animal market closed

In the meeting, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and mumbai police also presented a detailed report regarding the preparations for the upcoming Eid. Earlier, the maharashtra Gau Seva Commission had directed all Agricultural Product Market Committees (APMCs) to suspend weekly animal markets from june 3 to 8, citing the maharashtra Animal Protection Act, which prohibits the slaughter of cows, bulls and bullocks and the possession of beef, regardless of their age or health. The commission argued that the ban was necessary to prevent any possible violations before Eid, when animal slaughter traditionally increases due to the practice of Qurbani (sacrifice). The meeting regarding Eid was attended by mumbai Suburban district Deputy Guardian minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha, MLAs Aslam Sheikh, Abu Azmi, Amin Patel, Raees Sheikh, sana Malik, Chief Secretary Sujata Sainik, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Iqbal Singh Chahal, state director General of police Rashmi Shukla and mumbai police Commissioner Deven Bharti, among others.
