The Uttar Pradesh government has taken a big step to change the face of the intersections and roads of the state. Under the leadership of chief minister Yogi Adityanath, the government has prepared a blueprint to rejuvenate 28,830 intersections of the state by spending Rs 2000 crore. According to the Public Works Department, a detailed plan has been prepared for this work. Under this, measures will be taken to make roads with a width of less than two lanes at least two lanes and to increase the convenience of pedestrians. Also, work will be expedited on the construction of truck lay-bys on state highways more than 50 kilometers long.

So far, improvement work has been done on 1435 black spots to improve road safety in the state. These are the places where accidents often occurred. Now the government has taken long-term and short-term measures to make these places safe. This work will help in preventing road accidents.

According to the plan of the Public Works Department, 895 paved shoulders (work of paving the unpaved portion on the side of the road) will be completed at a cost of Rs 748 crore. This will provide a safe path to pedestrians and cyclists. Apart from this, all such state highways whose width is still not according to the standard, will be widened by at least two lanes.

Not only this, work will also be done to create a stopping place (lay-by) for trucks on state highways more than 50 kilometers long. For this, work will be done at 102 places. Lay-bys will be built at these places on a total length of 8,887 kilometers so that truck drivers can get a place to stop and traffic continues to run smoothly.

The state government has also identified those roads where the speed of vehicles is very low. These are the roads where the speed of traffic is 50 percent less than its design speed. Now there will be major improvement (major geometrical improvement) on these roads so that the traffic can be fast and safe.

The government has already taken steps regarding road safety. Between the years 2021 and 2024, the work of improvement has been completed on all 1435 black spots in the state. The government is now going to ensure that no place becomes a black spot for accidents in the future.
