Karnataka Budget Highlights: social media Ban for Children Under 16 Announced

Chief minister Siddaramaiah presented Karnataka’s budget for the fiscal year 2026–27 on Friday. He emphasized that the central government is not fully respecting the federal system, which he said leads to injustices for Karnataka.


Total Budget and Development Strategy


The state’s total estimated expenditure for 2026–27 is ₹448,004 crore. 


Siddaramaiah highlighted a development strategy that balances public welfare schemes with major infrastructure investments. Karnataka continues to be one of the highest tax-paying states in the country.


Social media Ban for Children Under 16

A key announcement in the budget is the ban on social media for children under 16. Establishment of AI and Robotics Campus


Another major initiative is the creation of the Bangalore Robotics and AI Innovation Zone. The campus will be a joint effort by IISc, ISRO, and KIONICS. It aims to promote research and development in robotics and artificial intelligence, positioning karnataka as a leader in technological innovation.


Appeal to Central Government and Future Plans
