Sourav Ganguly responded to the decision to remove rohit sharma as ODI captain.

He clarified: “This is not a dismissal, but a mutual decision.”

The former bcci President explained that such transitions are part of a cricketer's journey.

🤝 "Not a Dismissal, But a Discussion"

Ganguly told india Today that selectors likely spoke with Rohit before the decision.

It’s a normal cricketing decision. It’s not the first time this has happened,” he said.

He acknowledged Rohit’s achievementsleading india to major victories like the t20 world cup and Champions Trophy.

🕰️ Age a Factor in Leadership Change

Ganguly pointed out Rohit will be 40 by 2027.

The team needs to prepare for the future, and moving to a younger captain is a practical step.

“When you’re reaching the final stage of your career, such changes are natural,” he said.

🔁 Parallels with Dravid and Himself

Ganguly recalled similar situations from his own career and Rahul Dravid’s.

“This happened with me at the end of my career. It happened with Dravid, too,” he explained.

He added that even Shubman Gill will face this phase someday.

✅ Gill as Captain: The Right Move

Ganguly supported Shubman Gill’s appointment as ODI captain.

He cited Gill’s strong performances in challenging conditions like England and Australia.

It’s the right time to develop a young captain with Rohit still around to guide him,” Ganguly stated.

🏏 australia Tour Under New Leadership

India’s next challenge: a 3-match ODI series vs australia, starting october 19.

It will be Shubman Gill’s first major test as captain.
