This whole matter started after a statement by US President Donald Trump. trump said that he has spoken to apple CEO Tim Cook and told him that the company should not expand in India. There have been sharp reactions from the indian industry and technical experts on this.

If the shift from india to America is done, then why did the price triple?

Prashant Girbane, director General of maharashtra Chamber of Commerce, industries and Agriculture (MCCIA) clearly said, 'If iphone is made in America, then its cost can reach $3,000 i.e. around ₹2.5 lakhs. Whereas the same phone is manufactured in india or china for $1,000 (₹85,000). Will American customers pay such a high price?'

Girbane also said that currently a large part of Apple's manufacturing, about 80%, takes place in china and this provides employment to about 50 lakh people there. Apple's aim of increasing manufacturing in india is to reduce dependence on china, not to take away work from America.

Leaving india will be a costly deal for Apple

N.K. Goyal, chairman of Telecom Equipment Manufacturers Association (TEMA), said, 'Apple has manufactured iPhones worth ₹1.75 lakh crore from india in the last one year. They have three manufacturing plants in india and are planning two more. In such a situation, if apple leaves india, they may have to face huge losses.' Goyal also said that trade rules are constantly changing across the world and tariffs (import-export taxes) are also increasing. In such a situation, it would not be wise for apple to leave India.

How important is apple for India?

Former KPMG partner Jaideep Ghosh said, 'Apple's ecosystem is very important for India. If the company leaves india in the long run, it will have a direct impact on the country's economy and employment. It is not easy to make iphone in America because the labor cost there is very high.'
