Promotion of Reading Habits with Grace Marks in Kerala
The kerala government is launching an initiative aimed at fostering a reading culture among school children, responding to the declining interest in reading across all age groups. From the next academic year, students in government schools will be awarded grace marks for engaging in reading activities. This announcement was made by kerala Education minister V Sivankutty.
To facilitate this initiative, a designated time will be allocated for students to read books, newspapers, and participate in associated activities. The program is designed for students from classes 1 to 12, with tailored sessions for different age groups. Younger students in classes 1 to 4 will engage in age-appropriate reading activities, while those in classes 5 to 12 will also incorporate newspaper reading and related follow-up tasks.
To ensure the success of this initiative, teachers will receive specialized training, and a comprehensive booklet will be developed to guide reading-related activities. The goal is to encourage children to develop a lifelong reading habit, ultimately enriching their educational experience and fostering a love for literature.
