
Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on saturday flagged off the final match of the UP Premier t20 League at the Bharat Ratna Shri atal bihari vajpayee Ekana Stadium. The summit clash saw Kashi Rudras face off against Meerut Mavericks.
The cm interacted with both teams before the toss, hailing the league as a strong platform for young and budding cricketers in the state.
📌 Push for IPL Teams in UP
Yogi Adityanath urged the Board of Control for cricket in india (BCCI) to consider allotting two IPL franchises to Uttar Pradesh, citing its population of 25 crore.
“This will ensure more opportunities for local talent,” he said.
🏟 Sports Infrastructure in Focus
Highlighting the state’s sports initiatives, Adityanath announced that work on the Varanasi International cricket Stadium is 70% complete and will be ready by the year-end.
Other projects include:
- Ayodhya, Gorakhpur, and Meerut: New international-level stadiums coming up.
- Meerut: A sports university under development.
- Statewide: Stadiums at the district level, mini-stadiums in every block, and playgrounds in every village.
Former players are also being roped in as coaches to mentor rising talent.

Lauding the enthusiasm of players and fans, the cm said such events are vital to inspire youth and build a strong sports culture in Uttar Pradesh.
