Punjab's new chief minister, Charanjit Singh Channi, is a Dalit minister as we have reported already. Harish Rawat, a congress politician, announced the news on social media officially. Previous to him, it was reported that congress leader Sukhjinder Randhawa will be named Punjab's newly appointed minister. After punjab Chief minister Captain amarinder singh abruptly resigned, Navjot Singh Sidhu and ambika Soni were also top contenders in the contest to become the state's next chief minister.

Channi was accused of giving improper communications to a female IAS officer in october 2018. According to accounts, the problem was resolved to the pleasure of the female officer. Channi allegedly sent the lady cop many texts to which she complained, but he persisted to send them. She had chosen to oppose and escalate the situation after receiving a message late in the evening. He had accidentally emailed an urdu couplet to the female officer, which she had protested to. He eventually apologized for the incident.

Manisha Gulati, the head of the women's panel, said she wished to see justice done for the employee, who had only recently received a relocation outside Punjab. "The sufferer has now been relocated outside of Punjab. Officers from the indian Administrative service (IAS) are urging me to take action. As a result, I've notified the punjab administration. Why can't a woman IAS officer obtain justice when the State Chief Secretary is a female and the national party president is a woman? I will stage a sit-in protest if the administration does not respond within a week "Ms. Gulati explained.
