Seven persons have been arrested near Thoothukudi for reportedly hijacking a container lorry with cashew nuts worth Rs 1.10 crore, including the son of a former AIADMK minister. Yesterday, a container lorry carrying 16 tonnes of cashew nuts worth Rs 1.10 crore left an export company in Kanyakumari's Killiur neighbourhood for Thoothukudi port. Hari (40), of Alangulam, tenkasi district, was driving the lorry. A car passed the lorry as the Thoothukudi district reached Pottalurani. The men exited the vehicle, attacked Hari, the truck driver, and kidnapped him and the truck.

Because the lorry did not come on time, Muthukumar, an accountant at the lorry booking office in Thoothukudi, filed a complaint with the Pudukottai police station near Thoothukudi. Marimuthu (30), Sekar Manokaran (36) from Batticaloa Pillaiyar Kovil Street, Muniyasamy son Pandi (21) from Mullakkadu Nesamani, Velu son Senthilmurugan (35) from Murappanadu Muthuvinayagar Kovil Street, Palayankottai military line street Rajkumar was the name given to the son (26).
