The sanskrit Pledge, which was accepted by first-year students of the madurai Government Medical college in english, sparked debate because it included ideas such as maintaining devotion and discipline in life, wholehearted dedication to teachers, not giving place to female desire and lust, and only treating women in the presence of the husband.
Minister PDR Palanivel Thiagarajan posted on his facebook page the details of the 'Maharishi Sarkar' Pledge, which was delivered in english after being translated from Sanskrit. The pledge is written in tamil as follows:
* I will live a life of self-control, devotion, and discipline during my medical school. I shall devote my entire attention to my teachers. I shall act like the teacher's son or daughter, contributing to his well-being and happiness. All of my acts will be kind, service-oriented, and free of chaos and jealousy. When dealing with others, I shall walk patiently, obediently, quietly, respectfully, and with the ability to think. I shall give it my all to achieve the objective that my teacher has set for me. I'm going to walk in the direction of success.
* I am ready to assist the patient no matter how busy I am, no... no matter how fatigued I am. For the sake of money and personal gain, I will never abandon my patient. Female and gilded desires have no place in my heart. Even disorder, in my opinion, does not arise.
* I will continue to seek out new ways to expand my knowledge.
