Bijapur SP Anjaneya Varshney confirmed the event and stated that the case relates to the vicinity of the Gangalur police station. In April, Maoists detonated an IED in the Dantewada area of chhattisgarh, killing ten security guards and a driver. A squad from the district Reserve Guard (DRG) of the state police was returning from an anti-Naxalite operation when the event occurred inside the boundaries of the Aranpur police station.
A Naxal attack on wednesday claimed the lives of ten district Reserve Guard (DRG) members from chhattisgarh as well as the driver of the vehicle they were travelling in. After hearing that there were Naxalites in the Aranpur neighbourhood of Dantewada, security men from the district Reserve Guard (DRG) went there. The DRG troops' vehicle was the target of a Maoist improvised explosive device (IED) strike while it was leaving the region.
