The india Meteorological Department (IMD) warned in its morning weather prediction that chennai and many other districts in tamil Nadu would witness heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning today. The day has been designated a holiday in schools in chennai, Chengalpattu, Ranipet, and kanchipuram districts, as well as in Thiruvallur schools and institutions.
On Wednesday, heavy rain pelted various low-lying areas of chennai and neighbouring districts in tamil Nadu. Many streets in chennai, kanchipuram, and Thiruvallur were inundated, according to images shared on social media. The constant rain produced major traffic bottlenecks in Chennai.

The chennai Corporation has established hotline lines throughout the city for those who require assistance as a result of the rain. The Met Department has issued an orange signal for tamil Nadu's capital and adjoining districts on december 2 and 3, indicating the probability of severe to extremely heavy rainfall. According to the IMD's most recent advisory, a well-defined low pressure region remains over the southeast Bay of bengal and adjoining south andaman Sea, and is expected to travel west-northwestwards and become a depression over the Bay of bengal today. On december 2, it is forecast to strengthen into a cyclonic storm.
