Actor and DMDK founder Vijayakant was given full state honours at his funeral on friday night at the party headquarters in Koyambedu. He saluted with 72 guns. The funeral procession went slowly, gathering at Island Grounds in the afternoon. Fans and partygoers crowded the whole 12 km stretch. Chants of "Long Live Captain" were heard.
Vijayakant's mortal remains were transported in a vehicle that included his two sons and wife Premalatha. It was forbidden for the people who had been waiting outside the party headquarters since the afternoon to enter. VIPs and family members were the only ones allowed admission. There were LED screens outside the office. Vijayakant received flower tributes from AIADMK leaders, telangana governor tamilisai soundararajan, tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin, and other politicians.
At Island Grounds earlier, Vijayakant was given his final respects by governor R N Ravi, Union minister Nirmala Sitharaman, actors Rajnikanth, Kamal Haasan, Prabhu, Parthiban, Khushbu, and a few more. leader of Naam Tamilar Katchi Seeman and bjp state president annamalai also paid their final respects to Vijayakant, who passed away on friday at the age of 71.
