The telangana Gig and Platform workers Union (TGPWU) declared a "No AC Campaign" on Monday, april 8, in response to major taxi aggregators like as Uber, Ola, and Rapido offering fewer and lower per-kilometer charges. “@TGPWU announces No AC Campaign. We, drivers working with #Uber, #Ola, and #Rapido apps are unable to turn on the AC in our cabs due to declining per-kilometre fares. The cost of running our cabs with AC is rupees 16-18 per kilometer,” the organization said in a post on X.

Pay extra
As to the gig workers group, drivers may only get around 10-12 rupees per km after deducting the charges levied by Uber, Ola, and Rapido.

"Everyone of our clients in this regard. We respectfully ask that customers leave us a gratuity if they need the air conditioning on during rides so that we can cover the expenditures. Because of the dropping per-kilometer rates, we drivers for Uber, Ola, and Rapido applications are unable to turn on the air conditioning in our vehicles. It said, "With Hyderabad's temperatures reaching up to 43 degrees Celsius, using the air conditioner increases fuel and maintenance expenditures.

TGPWU shared screenshots of the rates that aggregators were offering and said that, at the moment, automobiles and bike taxis are being charged more than taxis.

"How does the algorithm determine these prices? How does the algorithm fail to account for the real expenses of operating taxis in this heat? How is it possible that operating a taxi is less expensive than operating a car or a bike taxi, both of which lack air conditioning? We kindly ask for your assistance in this matter from all of our clients. We humbly ask that they provide us with a gratuity if they insist on having the air conditioning on during trips so that we can cover the necessary expenses," the group representing gig workers stated.

The telangana government was also asked by TGPWU to immediately institute uniform charges per km for all cabs that are affiliated with platform businesses.

"We also implore the telangana government to make sure that the platform firms abide by rules issued by the government. It is not our purpose to cause inconvenience to our clients or ourselves as drivers. But since the telangana government and platform corporations are not responding to our repeated petitions, we are forced to start this No AC Campaign. The organization threatened to begin a national campaign for the same if its demands were not met immediately, working with trade unions in other states.
