There are more advantages to chanting Om than you would imagine.  People are vibrated and reverberated by the sound of Om.  The 'beej mantra', as it is well called, can alter your perspective.
 
Om is essentially made up of three syllables: AUM. An energy permeates your body as soon as you inhale deeply and begin the OM chant. You will feel a tingling feeling in your fingers, hands, face, and perhaps head. Chanting Om is said to activate the vagus nerve, which is essential for calming the nervous system, on a physiological level. Chanting creates a vibration that travels through the cranium, neck, and chest.
