Spoilers for Thunderbolts* have appeared online far earlier than usual because fan screenings were held earlier this week (and are still going on in Japan). That's the price of trying to create early publicity, but considering how much anticipation is currently around the upcoming Marvel Studios film, it appears to have paid off. While many of you are undoubtedly eager to find out what's next, some of you will have already watched Thunderbolts*. So, let's delve into the last Phase 5 movie's finale. At the end of the film, the Thunderbolts face Valentina Allegra de Fontaine and are forced to fight The Void, the darker side of The Sentry (you can learn more about that here).
The heroes assist Bob in escaping the evil inside of him by entering The Void's physical embodiment. The unfortunate Sentry is left rather perplexed by the devastation he is surrounded by, yet New York is spared.
The crew aims to bring Val to justice after she established The Sentry by conducting experiments on individuals like Bob, a former heroin addict. But they are tricked into entering a news conference right away, where she calls them the "New Avengers." In order to save her career and reputation, Val informs the media that she was working on their formation covertly. The team now "owns" her, nevertheless, as Yelena Belova subtly reminds her; this probably implies the CIA director will provide funding for the organization and let them to operate out of The Watchtower. They will act as the MCU's New Avengers in return for keeping her secret. This press conference seems to have been influenced by two particular comic book sequences from Brian Michael Bendis' New Avengers and Dark Avengers runs, which explains why it sounds familiar: A unique group of antiheroes, including Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, red Guardian, Ghost, Taskmaster, and john Walker, are assembled by Marvel Studios in Thunderbolts*. These dejected castoffs must set out on a perilous quest that will compel them to face the most sinister aspects of their pasts after becoming entangled in a death trap created by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.
Before it's too late, will this dysfunctional gang disband or find atonement and come together as something much more? Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Lewis Pullman as "Bob," Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, David Harbour as
red Guardian, Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent, Florence Pugh as Yelena Boleva, and Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes will lead the Thunderbolts* cast.
Thunderbolts*, which was written by Eric Pearson, Lee Sung Jin, and Joanna Calo and directed by Jake Schreier, is scheduled to open in theaters on May 2, 2025.
