Rafale piloted by India's first female fighter pilot:  Today, the face of India's rapidly modernizing air Force is a young girl who aspired to be a pilot.

Shivangi Singh has become the first woman to fly a Rafale combat plane. It all began when Shivangi was a young child and went to the air Force Museum in New Delhi. Singh stated, "That's where my adventure started," remembering the time she was in the museum. Shivangi claims that when she saw the fighter jets, she was rendered speechless and "immediately decided that she would become a pilot."

Notably, women were first admitted to the indian air Force (IAF) in 1995, but they were only permitted to fly fighter jets in 2015.  Like me, several women have gone on to become combat pilots. This not only demonstrates our society's modernization, but it also demonstrates that we can now achieve our goals," Singh stated.

Source of Inspiration
Shivangi Singh was born in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. She was an intelligent student who did well in school and athletics.  Her spouse is a fighter pilot as well.  "My mother was a huge source of inspiration because she didn't just want me to be educated, she wanted me to be self-reliant and she supported me in all my endeavors," she stated.

"Nervous And Worried"

The indian air Force reported more than 1,600 female officers in 2023, many of them were fighter pilots. Singh talked about her first feelings of anxiety when she was in the cockpit. Despite her "nervous and worried" feelings, she remembers how thrilling her solo flight was.

Shivangi saw "how much skill is required to gain control" of piloting a fighting aircraft on her first flight of the MiG-21 fighter jet.

Crafting A Novel Dream

One of the first pilots to fly the new Rafale aircraft is Shivangi Singh. She made the shortlist for simulator training with French instructors in 2020 after completing the IAF's demanding selection process.  She was given the opportunity to pilot a Rafale fighter plane after finishing her demanding training.
