With Lilo & Stitch and Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, 2025 will mark the beginning of the summer blockbuster season. One is the alleged last installment in tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt series, and the other is another live-action version of a popular Disney animated film. Deadline has just released some preliminary results from yesterday's thursday preview screenings. According to reports, Lilo & Stitch made about $14 million, but the trade anticipates that amount will increase when verified data are released later today.

According to current weekend projections, the $100 million Disney film will open for $150 million over four days on Memorial Day.

Although Experiment 626 appears to easily defeat Cruise's legendary IMF agent, Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning continues to aim for a franchise-high $8 million based on previews.  The initial Dead Reckoning Part Two subtitle was deleted by Paramount Pictures in favor of a more definitive title that has undoubtedly contributed to the film's increased popularity.

According to reports, tom Cruise wasn't pleased, but the studio had to take action to recover the $400 million production costs.  In order to comfortably surpass Mission: Impossible - Fallout's $61 million haul from 2018, it now aims for a $75 million to $85 million launch.

June is looking to be a busy month, but it's difficult to predict how Karate Kid: Legends will perform against these two blockbusters next weekend.  Along with other lesser releases, From the World of john Wick: Ballerina, How to train Your Dragon, 28 Years Later, Elio, F1: The Movie, and M3GAN 2.0 are all in the works. July promises to be the biggest month of 2025, as Jurassic World Rebirth, Superman, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps battle for dominance.
