"There's a video showing me joking and teasing my wife and somehow that becomes a sort of geo-planetary catastrophe, with people even coming up with theories to explain it," the French president said in response to the widely shared video.
Macron acknowledged the authenticity of the footage but denounced its use as a weapon. "The videos are all authentic, and while it's true that occasionally people alter them, people are giving them all sorts of ridiculous names."
Macron is seen standing in the doorway as the airplane door opens in the short footage. A few seconds later, Brigitte Macron appears to give her husband a short nudge as her two outstretched hands press against his face.
Macron seems a little surprised, but he quickly collects himself and gestures to the media outside.
As they down the steps, Macron offers Brigitte his arm, but she refuses, opting instead to hold onto the railing.
