In India, cricket is more than simply a game; it's a religion.  We indians have been accustomed to hearing this statement about our love for the game.  Even though we enjoy making our athletes into living gods, we also have no problem destroying them for even the smallest error or personal choice.

This also applies to the current holy triumvirate of indian cricket, which consists of Rohit, Virat, and Dhoni.  Virat is mocked for quitting too soon, while rohit sharma is trolled for being overweight.  In the meantime, ms dhoni is being criticized for not retiring from the game, which is the definition of the worst kind of irony.

How can we claim to be fans at all if we are unable to treat those who have devoted their lives to the game with even the most basic respect?  If anything, our behavior demonstrates that we are only sly trolls who are looking for a mistake to take advantage of our players.  Cricket, which seems to have lost its reputation as the gentleman's game a long time ago, will continue to be ruined by this toxic fan culture until it changes.
