Tensions between iran and israel in the Middle east have reached a peak for the last few days. Iran's Foreign Ministry said on monday (June 16, 2025) that Iran's parliament is preparing a bill to exit the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). However, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghai said that we are not in favor of making nuclear weapons.

Legal process is in the initial stage

According to a Reuters report, no decision has been taken by the Iranian parliament yet regarding exiting the NPT, while an MP said that this proposal is in the initial stages of the legal process. Last week, iran said that Tehran is on the verge of making a nuclear bomb. iran has always said that its nuclear program is peaceful. The international Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) announced last week that Tehran is violating its NPT obligations.

What is NPT?

The Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) is an international agreement aimed at preventing the spread of nuclear weapons and related technology, promoting cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy and other goals.

Israel's warning to Iran

This step is being taken at a time when increasing attacks between israel and iran have increased the fear of war in the region. israel has warned people living near Iranian weapons installations to vacate their bases.

An official said that israel has a long list of places which are necessary to make nuclear weapons. Iran's nuclear program has progressed rapidly since 2018, when the US withdrew from a deal to limit Tehran's uranium enrichment capacity.
