These days the situation in West Asia remains very sensitive. The ongoing conflict between iran and israel has brought the region to the brink of war. The echo of missile attacks, scenes of devastation and the ever-increasing tension have already taken people's sleep away. But now in the midst of this ground conflict, nature has also knocked on the alert, when strong tremors of the earthquake shook the land of Iran.
An earthquake of 5.1 magnitude hit iran on Friday, june 21. The tremor was 10 kilometers deep and its epicenter was 37 kilometers southwest of the city of Semnan. This information was given by the US Geological survey (USGS). The earthquake has come at a time when there is tension between iran and israel over missile attacks.
Iran's state news agency IRNA reported that there were no deaths and only minor damage was caused by this earthquake. The report also said that tremors of 5.5 magnitude were felt in the city of Sarkheh in Semnan province.
Iran is sensitive to earthquakes
Iran is one of the most sensitive countries in the world in terms of earthquakes because it is located on the Alpine-Himalayan seismic belt. The Arabian and Eurasian tectonic plates collide in this region, causing frequent earthquakes. Every year, around 2,100 earthquakes occur here, of which about 15 to 16 earthquakes are of magnitude 5.0 or more. Two other earthquakes have already occurred in iran this week, in Kashmar (Razavi Khoresan province) on june 19 and in Borazjan (Bushehr province) on june 17, both with a magnitude of 4.2.
Iranian missile created panic in Israel
Meanwhile, on Thursday, tremendous panic spread in the Israeli city of Tel Aviv, when a missile fired by iran exploded near a high-rise building in the Ramat Gan area. This place is just 200 meters away from the Diamond Exchange. Locals described the explosion as "like an atom bomb" and "an earthquake".
"It was like a nuclear bomb, the ground shook," 69-year-old resident Ascher Adiv told The Guardian. The attack was part of a volley of 30 ballistic missiles fired by Iran. Another missile directly hit the Soroka Medical Center in Beersheva, the main hospital in southern israel, where dozens of people were injured, six of whom were said to be in critical condition.
