A recent rumor from MTTSH claims that The Odyssey, directed by christopher nolan, will receive a R rating. This would be a somewhat unexpected turn of events. We thought Universal would go for a PG-13 in order to maximize earnings, even though Homer's poem undoubtedly has enough violence and other aspects to warrant an R-rated version. However, at this point, Nolan is a filmmaker and can make any kind of picture he damn well pleases!

It is thought that tom Holland would play his son, Telemachus, while Zendaya will play the goddess Athena. Only Matt Damon's part as Odysseus has been confirmed.  Additionally, Robert Pattinson is rumored to be playing Hermes.

The mythological heroes and villains that a significant number of the other performers would portray were just revealed by the Greek media website OneMan.com.

Here is a potential spoiler notice in case any of these roles are meant to be unexpected.  The film will reportedly include charlize theron as Goddess of Sorcery Circe, Anne Hathaway as Odysseus' wife Penelope, Benny Safdie as king of Mycenae Agamemnon, and Lupita Nyong'o as his wife Clytemnestra, in addition to Damon, Pattinson, Holland, and Zendaya.

"Using brand-new IMAX film technology, christopher Nolan's upcoming picture, The Odyssey, is a mythic action epic that was filmed all over the world.  When the movie was revealed, Universal Pictures released a statement saying, "The film brings Homer’s foundational saga to IMAX film screens for the first time and opens in theaters everywhere on July 17, 2026."

Odysseus and his crew are followed in Homer's ancient Greek poem as they return home after the Trojan War, where they face a variety of dangers such as the witch-goddess Circe, the Sirens, and the Cyclops Polyphemus.

The poem has previously been adapted (often very roughly) several times, beginning with Giuseppe de Liguoro's silent film from 1911 and continuing with Kirk Douglas's 1954 film Ulysses.  Both 2024's The Return, starring Ralph Fiennes, and the Cohen Brothers' O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000) are based on the epic tale.

Fans of anime might probably remember the Ulysses 31 series from the 1980s, which gave the story a futuristic twist.

Hugh Jackman, who starred in Deadpool and Wolverine, was in negotiations to play Odysseus in a Lionsgate and Francis lawrence production back in 2015, but the project never took off.
