US President
donald trump on
friday (July 18, 2025) launched a scathing attack on the Wall Street Journal and its owners and filed a defamation suit of $ 10 billion (about Rs 83,000 crore). The suit has been filed in a federal
court in Florida, in which
trump has named
news Corp owner Rupert Murdoch, Dow Jones Company and two journalists of the Wall Street Journal as defendants.
Trump alleges that the Wall Street Journal deliberately published a false and offensive report, claiming that in 2003 he sent a birthday message to the infamous investor Jeffrey Epstein. The message mentioned a pornographic picture and "their shared secrets".
trump has described the report as baseless, false and character assassination.
Donald
trump made this big claim
The US President said that this report was published with the aim of damaging his reputation and political career.
trump claims that this false
news has caused serious economic and social damage to him. In his response on Truth Social, he wrote, "I am looking forward to putting Rupert Murdoch in the dock in court. His garbage heap newspaper, the Wall Street Journal, will now be held accountable. This trial is going to be a historic experience."
Trump has long been accusing the mainstream
media of biased reporting. Now he has dragged Murdoch directly to court. At the same time, there has been no official response from Dow Jones,
news Corp and Murdoch on this lawsuit.
Trump had previously also publicly warned
It is worth noting that Dow Jones is the owner of the Wall Street Journal and it is a subsidiary of
news Corp.
trump had previously also publicly warned that if the false reporting did not stop, he would take legal action against Murdoch.
