As part of India's 79th Independence Day celebrations, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has introduced the FASTag Annual Pass, effective from august 15. Priced at Rs 3000, this pass is designed for frequent commuters who regularly traverse highway toll gates. It offers an annual benefit of 200 toll trips over a 12-month period.
The FASTag Annual Pass streamlines toll transactions, significantly reducing waiting times and travel expenses. Commuters can activate the pass via the Rajmargyatra app or the National Highways Authority of india (NHAI) website, which accommodates all major online payment options.
Pricing and Benefits
For a recharge of Rs 3000, users gain access to 12 months of toll crossings or 200 trips, whichever is reached first. Union minister Nitin Gadkari highlighted that while the average toll charge ranges from Rs 80 to Rs 100, the FASTag system can lower this cost to approximately Rs 15 per crossing, resulting in an estimated annual savings of Rs 7000 for users.
Eligibility and Validity Conditions
To qualify for the FASTag Annual Pass, users must ensure that their FASTag is correctly installed, linked to a valid Vehicle Registration Number (VRN), and in active condition. The pass is non-transferable; using it with a different vehicle number will lead to automatic cancellation.
The pass is exclusively available for non-commercial or private vehicles, including cars, vans, and jeeps. Importantly, it is valid only on national highways and expressways, and not applicable to state highways or toll plazas managed by state authorities.
