Chennai, Dec. 4 —

At the event organized yesterday (03.12.2025) by the Entrepreneurship Development and Innovation Institute (EDII) under the Department of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), a newly constructed hostel facility costing 2.34 crore was inaugurated by MSME minister Thiru T.M. Anbarasan. This hostel will accommodate trainees pursuing the EDII-certified Entrepreneurship Training Program.

Speaking at the inauguration, the minister said:

A newly renovated and modern hostel building constructed at a total expenditure of 2.34 crore has been opened for the benefit of 120 budding entrepreneurs undergoing training through the tamil Nadu Government’s EDII. This facility is intended to provide comfortable, on-campus accommodation to trainees from across the state.

Under the Innovation Voucher Program, designed to support new inventions, 20 innovators are being provided financial assistance amounting to 35.63 lakh. Additionally, awards were conferred on five women entrepreneurs who received training from EDII and have successfully established themselves in their respective fields. The minister extended his congratulations and best wishes to them.

He further added that the Entrepreneurship Development and Innovation Institute (EDII), launched in 2001 by the late Kalaignar Dr. m. karunanidhi to foster entrepreneurship and innovation, has now completed 25 years of service, marking a significant milestone — its silver Jubilee year. The minister conveyed his greetings to the institution’s Director, officers, and staff.

Highlighting various ongoing initiatives, he said:

· The “School Innovation Development Program,” initiated by the Hon’ble Chief minister, is effectively nurturing creativity among school students.

· For college students, programs such as the “Nimirndhu Nil” initiative continue to encourage entrepreneurial thinking.

· Entrepreneurship awareness and skill development training is also being provided through EDII to aspiring entrepreneurs from rural and urban livelihood missions, Adidravidar communities, scheduled tribes, and various other sectors.

During the last 4½ years of the present government, 50,18,091 individuals have been trained under these schemes.

The minister further stated:

To support young innovators and students engaged in creating new inventions, the State government has enhanced the assistance provided through the Innovation Voucher Program.

· The grant for research and prototype development has been increased from 2 lakh to 3 lakh.

· The funding for product manufacturing and market launch has been raised from 5 lakh to 7 lakh.

Over the past 4½ years, 572 new innovators have received financial support amounting to 14.50 crore under this program.
