New Delhi: education minister dharmendra pradhan praised jawaharlal nehru University (JNU) Vice-Chancellor M. Jagadesh Kumar on friday for launching a new course on ‘counter-terrorism' at the national capital university. Pradhan told a virtual meeting of vice-chancellors from central universities across the country that JNU had taken a significant step forward by launching a counter-terrorism course.


“Why can't we discuss terrorism and counter-terrorism in our universities if MIT can do so on their platforms?” he said, congratulating the Vice-Chancellor of JNU. “We should all be aware of the future state of terrorism. It's not a bad thing if students learn this at university.”


The JNU course, titled ‘Counter-Terrorism, Asymmetric Conflicts, and Strategies for Cooperation Among Major Powers,' was approved by the executive council on Thursday. According to the course, “jihadi terrorism” is the only type of “fundamentalist-religious terrorism.”


During the meeting, Pradhan also praised delhi University for launching the four-year undergraduate program in the coming academic year and discussed the implementation of the new National education Policy (NEP).


According to sources present at the meeting, all of the central universities made a presentation in front of the minister to inform him of the vacancies and to seek his guidance on how to fill them. In response to the request, the minister directed universities to work on filling vacant teaching positions on a "mission mode" basis
