The Central Board of Secondary education (CBSE) has released a fresh notification regarding the conduct of two Class 10 board examinations for the academic year 2025–26 (Board Exams 2026).
Two-Exam System for Class 10
As per the new notification, CBSE will conduct two board examinations for Class 10 students in 2026. This move is aimed at reducing exam pressure and providing students with an opportunity to improve their performance.
- The first examination will be conducted as the main board exam.
- The second examination will serve as an improvement opportunity for students who wish to enhance their scores.
Optional Second Attempt
The second exam is expected to be optional. students who are satisfied with their performance in the first exam may choose not to appear again. Those seeking better marks can reappear in selected subjects.
Objective Behind the Reform
The decision aligns with the broader educational reforms recommended under the National education Policy 2020, which emphasizes reducing high-stakes pressure and promoting a more flexible examination system.
CBSE stated that detailed guidelines regarding exam schedules, subject eligibility, mark calculation, and result declaration will be released separately.
Relief for Students
Education experts believe that the two-exam system will help reduce anxiety among students and provide them with a fair chance to perform better without losing an academic year.
