
Pondicherry: pondicherry Manapat is about to become a home of a 100-acre film town and entertainment centre. minister Lakshmi Narayanan stated that a tender will be issued soon to prepare a detailed report on this.
The puducherry Screen Movement, Alliance france, Central Film Division and the tamil Nadu Progressive Writers Artists Association have teamed up to launch the Satyajit Ray Centenary festival in pondicherry tonight.
The puducherry Alliance france Theater will screen 9 award-winning films by Satyajit Ray and the documentary Satyajit Ray by shyam Benegal. The world-famous Pather Panchali was screened as the first film.
Speaking at the inaugural function, minister Lakshmi Narayanan said, “The film city and entertainment centre will be located on 100 acres in Manappad, Pondicherry.
This can be used commercially. A tender will be issued to prepare a detailed report on this. Indo-French festivals will be held in association with the Tourism Department in March. Then there will be a food festival and a film festival."
Speaking on the occasion, Tamilselvan, Honorary President of the Progressive Writers 'Artists' Association, said, "Satyajit Ray has a great reputation in france beyond India.
The event was attended by many including Alliance france President Dr Nallam Satish, festival Coordinator Ramachandran and Alliance Francis director Leela. Editor Lenin read the thaw and opened the event.
