Malayalam actress Navya Nair recently faced trouble at melbourne airport.


She was carrying a 15 cm jasmine garland (gajra) in her handbag.


Under Australia’s strict biosecurity and customs laws, carrying fresh flowers, plants, or seeds is strictly prohibited.


Violations can harm the country’s agriculture and environment.


Navya was fined 1,980 Australian dollars (around ₹1.14 lakh).


She revealed the incident during a public event in Melbourne.



How the jasmine Garland Reached Her Bag


Navya explained that her father brought jasmine flowers before her trip.


He divided the garland into two parts:


One part for her to wear from kochi to Singapore.


The other is to keep in her handbag to use later in the journey.


Navya admitted it was an unintentional mistake, but officials clarified that ignorance is not an excuse.


She was asked to pay the fine within 28 days.


After the Incident


Despite the fine, Navya continued with her schedule in Melbourne.


She attended the onam celebrations organized by the victoria Malayali Association.


She also shared a reel of her onam celebrations on social media.
