Dhanush is back with Team 'VIP' for the movie 'Thangamagan'. The movie is directed by Velraj. Samantha and Amy Jackson are sharing screen space with Dhanush. Technical team features A.Kumaran for cinematography and M.V.Rajesh Kumar for editing. Anirudh Ravichandar scored music. The supporting cast features stellar cast of actors like Sathish, Raadika Sarathkumar, Jayaprakash, M.S.Baskar and KS Ravikumar. The movie is just about story of a common man 'Tamizh' who goes through various phases such as Love at First sight, Break up, Pain, Marriage and Family. Life travels in straight line until Tamizh's father faces an unexpected incident and how life changes since then.
Dhanush as usual is flawless. He has nailed it with some stellar performances in first half as a teenager and as a family man in second half. He has provided some stellar performance and this is a cake walk for him. He also has shown lots of variation between his two characters. The expressions are flawless. Definitely an One man show from Dhanush. Amy Jackson still has a long way to go. She is absolutely stone faced. She has grabbed a big chance in '2.O' and hope she doesn't spoil it. Samantha grabs the most of it as a home maker. But she has to stay away from dubbing. Her voice seems weird. K.S.Ravikumar and Radhika Sarathkumar are perfect as parents. The villain role has zero power and it never made more impact. Just like in 'Paayum Puli' movie, Velraj has done a cameo role. M.S.Bhaskar has been under utilized.
In technical side, Anirudh has failed. He never took the movie with his good music. In 'VIP', Music was the backbone and here it is a big let off. M. V. Rajesh Kumar has done a neat role as editor. He kept running time to 120 minutes and that is the biggest strength. But still second half moves at snail pace. Kumaran's cinematography was catchy and it brings the desi looks. Nothing more to brag about in technical side.
'Thangamagan' is defintiely not good as 'Velai Illa Pattathaari'. But it can be watched for its entertaining factor. But even that is watched a zillion times earlier in most of the Dhanush movies. Time is changing Dhanush, still don't go the same way. Try to take the path less travelled. Anirudh is a big disappointment.
