Jiiva is known for his typical natural sense of humor and comic body language, and that has been put to full use in Kalakalappu 2, while Jai, a regular of almost all Venkat Prabhu comedy fests, gets to score bigger with his innocence and comic timing. However, Shiva steals the scene whenever he appears on screen, as he's an expert in poker-faced comedy and excels with his funny, illogical one-liners.
Nikki Galrani and Catherine Tresa compete with each other to treat the audience with an unlimited glam show and oozing oomph set the screens on fire. The rest of the huge star cast including Yogi Babu, Manobala, Robot Shankar, Radharavi, Ramadoss are apt for their roles.
Background score by Hip-hop Thamizha is loud, while of his songs, Oru Kuchi oru kulfi and pudichuruka illa pudikalaya pass the muster. Cinematography by Senthil Kumar captures the grand sets and locales of Varanasi beautifully and the songs are a visual treat with the glam fest and colorful shots. Srikanth's editing could have been better as the second half needs a trimming of at least 15 minutes.
After trying his hand at mass masala entertainers and horror flicks , and after achieving huge success as a producer with Meesaya Murukku, now Sundar C has returned to his home ground - comedy, with Kalakalappu 2, the namesake sequel to his 2012 hit that brought him back to Kollywood as a comeback post a series of career-ending flops.
Just like part 1, despite having new characters totally, their essence happens to be the same, happy go lucky brothers hunting an unexpected bounty and opponents vying to snatch it from them, with the brothers ultimately winning.
Sundar C has cleverly weaved a screenplay filled with funny sequences and comic one-liners and makes up for missing Santhanam from part 1 with Shiva perfectly fitting in, and with a generous dosage of glamour in the songs, Kalakalappu 2 ends a successful comedy caper. Not that the movie is flawless, but despite its flaws, Kalakalappu 2 is a strictly illogical yet laugh out loud comedy Marathon that's sure to entertain.
