Even though the bjp has been in control in the State for nearly three decades, the much-heralded gujarat Model struggles to give its citizens access to safe drinking water.

Gujarat is experiencing a severe water crisis as a result of rising mercury levels, particularly in the Saurashtra region, Kutch, North gujarat, and some tribal areas in Central and South Gujarat. More than 20 regions are reportedly severely impacted since cities and villages barely ever receive water twice weekly. Tankers are used to deliver drinking water to more than 500 villages throughout 14 districts.

When Modi was the State's Chief Minister, he pledged to address the drinking water crisis, but 20 years later, nothing has changed. Actually, 50,000 women from 125 villages in North gujarat that are impacted by the mukteshwar Dam and the Karmavad Lake submitted postcards to Modi to remind him of his pledge to provide drinking water.

"Tum Ramila Ben ki jholi vote se bhar dho; Main tumhare Chimnabai Sarovar ko paani se bhar dunga," remarked Modi in the 2002 election campaign in the village of Kheralu in the Mehsana district. I'll fill Chimnabai Sarovar with water if you vote for Ramila Ben (a bjp candidate).
