Release Imran: Pakistan's SC-arrest "illegal"..?


Imran Khan's motion for relief was heard by the supreme court, which harshly chastised the NAB for detaining him outside the Islamabad High Court's grounds when he was there to appear in a case.

The country's supreme court ruled today amid violent protests by backers of the former prime minister who is accused of corruption, Imran Khan, who was detained by Pakistan's top anti-corruption authority. The NAB (National Accountability Bureau) is in charge of Mr. Khan.

A three-judge panel consisting of Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Muhammad ali Mazhar, and Justice Athar Minallah issued the decision bringing Mr. Khan, 70, before the supreme Court. The former prime minister was detained while on the grounds of the Islamabad high court, where he had gone to appear in a case, according to the supreme court, which heard Mr. Khan's motion for relief.

The supreme court instructed Mr. Khan to report back to the Islamabad high court tomorrow at 10 am and abide by the high court's ruling. According to the supreme court, just ten of his supporters will be permitted to see him.

The pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party is led by Mr. Khan. A person cannot be taken into custody outside of the courthouse without the registrar's consent, according to Chief Justice Bandial. According to press Trust of India, the Chief Justice questioned what it meant to arrest someone who had already appeared in court.
