Employers in singapore must implement enhanced measures to reduce the risks of heat stress for workers who work outdoors for their company, MOM said. The MOM has highlighted that outdoor workers in singapore are more exposed to heat stress due to rising temperatures. "Unlike other workers, workers who work in outdoor locations may be more exposed to heat stress," MOM said in a press release. It is also worth noting that the new measures brought by the Ministry of Manpower were developed in consultation with the Heat Stress Expert Group of the Ministry of health (MOH). MOM has shared a set of measures that focus on drinking water, rest and shade to provide protection for outdoor workers. Examples of these measures include ensuring that new workers are given time to gradually transition to outdoor work, and ensuring that all outdoor workers hydrate at least once an hour and have regular rest breaks in shaded areas to reduce accumulated body heat.
All employers should ensure that employers monitor the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) for every hour of outdoor work, especially during extremely hot periods. The MOM has highlighted that outdoor workers in singapore are more exposed to heat stress due to rising temperatures.
