According to the latest data from the US Customs and Border Protection (UCBP), 96,917 indians were apprehended for illegally entering the US between october 2022 and september 2023. It has been reported that the number of indians arrested while crossing the US border illegally has increased fivefold in the past years.

In 2019-20, 19,883 indians were arrested for illegally entering the US. 30,662 indians have been arrested in 2020-21. This number has increased to 63,927 in 2021-22, the data says.


Of the 96,917 indians arrested from october 2022 to september this year, 30,010 were caught at the Canadian border and 41,770 at the Mexican border. Arrestees are classified under four categories: Accompanying Minors (AM), Individuals in a Family Unit (FMUA), Single Adults and Unaccompanied Children (UC).


Of these, the majority are adults. In fiscal year 2023, 84,000 single indian adults entered the united states illegally. Among those arrested were 730 unaccompanied minors. The US federal government's fiscal year runs from october 1 to september 30.
