Arnold Dix, an international tunnelling specialist, was called in as the government pushed out all the brakes to rescue 41 workers who had been trapped within Uttarkashi's Silkyara tunnel since november 12. Dix, the president of the international Tunnelling and subterranean Space Association (Geneva), is well-known for taking legal, environmental, political, and ethical risks in the subterranean construction industry.

Earlier today, the Australian specialist said he felt pleased amid news that the rescue mission was approaching conclusion, with rat-hole mining professionals digging through the final few metres of rubble. The evacuation of all 41 workers concludes the rescue operation. "The mountain has told us one thing, and that is to be humble," Dix said this morning to reporters.

"I feel good. I've never said it before... The drilling along the top of the mountain is coming along perfectly. In the tunnel, it is coming along very well. So, I feel good," said the expert who joined rescue ops on november 20.
