Congress faced a major defeat at the hands of bharatiya janata party (BJP) in the chhattisgarh Assembly
elections, but it managed to perform well on the seats reserved for the scheduled caste (SC) community. Congress
has won six out of ten seats reserved for sc candidates, which is one less than it won in 2018. In the 2018
elections in the state, congress had won seven out of 10 sc seats, while bjp had won two and Bahujan Samaj
Party (BSP) one seat. This time congress has won six sc seats Sarangarh, Masturi, Pamgarh, Saraipali, Bilaigarh
and Dongargarh. Out of these six seats, Masturi and Pamgarh are the seats which were with bjp and BSP in 2018.
In Sarangarh, congress had fielded its sitting mla North Ganpat Jangade, who defeated BJP’s Shivkumari
Chauhan by a margin of 29,695 votes. congress had denied tickets to its sitting MLAs in Saraipali, Bilaigarh and
Dongargarh constituencies and fielded new women faces Chaturi Nand, Kavita pran Lahere and Harshita Swami
Baghel who were successful in winning.
