It has been reported that the Law Commission is going to recommend the Union government to implement the One Country One election Scheme in 2029
In India, elections are held separately for the lok sabha and the state legislatures. Apart from this, separate elections are held for local bodies. However, the talk of one country holding one election has intensified after the bjp came to power. One Country One election means holding one election for both parliament and Legislative Assembly.
If the same country holds a single election, people will have to cast three votes at the same time. One for the state legislature, another for the parliament and another for the local bodies. While arguments are made that holding elections in this way will reduce costs, practical problems are also pointed out.
If assembly elections are held along with parliamentary elections, various questions are being raised such as whether the party in power in the states will be dissolved before the end of its entire life and how the state governments will react to it.
Meanwhile, the Union Law Ministry has asked the National Law Commission to conduct a probe into the same election in the same country. Accordingly, the Law Commission asked the opinion of the public and political parties.
