Congress Leaders Demeaning india In Front Of Pakistan’: BJP Questions rahul gandhi, Kharge Over pahalgam Remarks
BJP criticizes rahul gandhi and mallikarjun Kharge for not controlling Congress leaders' statements on the pahalgam terror attack. BJP alleges that Congress leaders' remarks are being misused by Pakistan.
The bharatiya janata party (BJP) on monday launched a sharp attack on congress leaders rahul gandhi and mallikarjun Kharge over remarks made by several congress figures following the pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir. bjp leaders questioned whether Congress’ call for national unity was genuine or merely perfunctory, citing comments from senior congress members that, they alleged, are being exploited by pakistan to defame India.
BJP mp and former Union minister Ravi shankar Prasad addressed a press conference, saying, “Are rahul gandhi and mallikarjun Kharge not able to control their party?… Everyone is given the freedom to speak whatever they want to. All their statements are being misused in Pakistan. There is a media campaign running… When the nation should speak in a common tone, congress leaders are demeaning the country in front of Pakistan. What are you (Rahul gandhi and mallikarjun Kharge) doing?… Were any questions asked to Siddaramaiah? Has anyone been told to issue a public apology?… We condemn this attitude.”
Prasad named congress leaders including Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah, senior maharashtra leader Vijay Wadettiwar, karnataka minister R B Timmapur, and Rahul Gandhi’s brother-in-law Robert Vadra, accusing them of making controversial statements that undermined national unity. He alleged that while Kharge and gandhi expressed support for government countermeasures following the attack during an all-party meeting, many congress leaders have made “shameless and irresponsible” comments questioning the accounts of victims who said terrorists singled out non-Muslims.
Citing specific examples, prasad said, “Karnataka cm Siddaramaiah has said ‘war is not necessary,’ on 26 April he said we do not have right to war, we should take strong steps against it, and pakistan is playing it all. Whatever congress says, Pakistan’s generals use that.” In R B Timmapur’s statement, he added, “Another leader, RV Timmapur, said that the terrorists did not ask for the religion of the victims.” Prasad recalled the Congress party’s conduct during the 26/11 mumbai attacks, saying he had been instructed then to unequivocally support the government led by Dr manmohan singh without political point-scoring.
Prasad noted, “Looking at the situation of the country right now, I did not expect to do a PC (press conference) on it, because it is being handled under strategic security. people are angry with the unfortunate incident in Pahalgam.” Referring to prime minister Narendra Modi’s remarks, he added that there would be a strict investigation into the terror attack.
He further alleged that there seems to be an agenda behind the statements by some congress leaders. “I am quite sad, and grieving, but looking at the pattern which has come out then I figured I should address it from the party’s platform,” Prasad said.
Earlier, Siddaramaiah had posted on X, “There is no need to declare war on pakistan regarding terrorist attacks. Steps should be taken to tighten security measures in the kashmir region. We are not in favor of war; an environment should be created where people can live peacefully. The central government should increase security to ensure peace in Kashmir.” He later issued a clarification stating, "I said that it (war) is inevitable, but it must be done with pakistan, but I did not say that there should be no war. It is the responsibility of the central government to provide security. Twenty-six people died in the incident... I said, there should not be a war immediately."
The attack in pahalgam, which is among the deadliest in the Valley since the 2019 Pulwama attack that killed 40 CRPF personnel, has prompted strong responses from the indian government against pakistan for its alleged support of cross-border terrorism.
BJP mp anurag thakur Slams Congress's Saifuddin Soz For Opposing Indus Water Treaty Suspension
Meanwhile, bjp mp anurag thakur also lashed out at congress leader and former Union minister Saifuddin Soz over his remarks regarding the Indus Waters Treaty. Thakur accused Soz of “shamelessly defending Pakistan” and alleged that such leaders “represent the true face of Congress.”
In a post on X, Thakur said, “Pakistan is a habitual offender that takes delight in bleeding india and troubling the world by funding terrorism as its state policy; hence, it must be brought to task. The narendra modi government has taken a wise decision to suspend the Indus Water Treaty, sending a categorical message to Pakistan: don’t expect hospitality when you are hostile.” He further added, “Let pakistan and its Friends’ Club be very clear: india will not offer even a drop of water if you spill even a drop of our blood.”
Speaking to news agency , Saifuddin Soz had said, “For Pakistan the water is very important for irrigation and drinking purposes. If the river water cannot be diverted the state of punjab and kashmir - SRINAGAR/JAMMU' target='_blank' title='jammu and kashmir-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW'>jammu and kashmir will be totally submerged. The Indus Water Treaty has survived the wars between india and Pakistan.”
Soz urged that “If pakistan takes a stand that they are not involved in the pahalgam attack, then we should accept Pakistan’s word.”
Jairam Ramesh Distances congress From Controversial Remarks: 'These Are Personal Views'
Separately, congress mp and General Secretary in charge of communications, Jairam Ramesh distanced the party from controversial remarks made by individual congress leaders. Speaking to the news agency ANI, Ramesh said, “…Some congress leaders who have had important positions in the past, senior leaders have expressed some views. The congress party has nothing to do with these views. We dissociate ourselves from these views. These are personal views. The views of the congress are the views expressed in the resolution of the CWC (Congress Working Committee).”
The views expressed by the congress President mallikarjun Kharge and LoP rahul gandhi in this all-party meeting. As the situation evolves in this most sensitive of times, the congress Working Committee, the congress President, lok sabha LoP will be articulating the party’s position,” he added.
