The time for withdrawal of nominations for the by-election to the ludhiana West assembly seat in punjab ended on thursday and now 14 candidates are in the fray. punjab Chief Electoral Officer Sibin C said that on the last day of withdrawal of nomination, an independent candidate Kamal Pawar withdrew his nomination.

After scrutiny of nomination papers, 15 nominations were found valid and after the withdrawal of one candidate, now 14 candidates are left in the fray. By-election to ludhiana West assembly seat in punjab will be held on june 19 and counting of votes will be done on june 23.

Seat has fallen vacant due to the death of 'AAP' MLA

ludhiana West seat fell vacant after the death of 'AAP' mla Gurpreet Bassi Gogi in January. This seat includes 89,602 male voters, 84,825 female voters and 10 voters of 'third gender' category.

Apart from this, the voters include 100 service voters, 2,039 senior citizens, 2,896 young voters (aged 18-19 years), 17 overseas voters and 1,234 persons with disabilities (PWD). A total of 192 polling stations will be set up at 66 places for voting.

sanjeev Arora has been given ticket by Aam Aadmi Party

Let us tell you that aam aadmi party has fielded rajya sabha member sanjeev Arora for the by-election. The ruling party was the first political party to announce its candidate in the month of February. Arora is an industrialist from ludhiana and is also known for his social welfare work. Arora has been a member of rajya sabha since 2022.

The congress has fielded former minister Bharat bhushan Ashu, who has been an mla from this seat twice in 2012 and 2017. In the 2022 punjab assembly elections, Ashu was defeated by Gogi of aam aadmi party by a margin of 7,512 votes. Shiromani Akali Dal has nominated lawyer Parupkar Singh Ghuman for this by-election. bjp has fielded jeevan Gupta for this by-election.
