G. Parameshwara Denies Attending ABVP event in Tumkuru – Clarifies Tribute to rani Abbakka
A controversy erupted over karnataka Home minister Dr. G. Parameshwara’s alleged participation in a program organized by akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in Tumkuru.
Reports claimed that the senior congress leader attended an ABVP-organized event, triggering political backlash and speculation.
Dr. Parameshwara refuted the claims, stating that he did not attend any ABVP program. He clarified that his presence was limited to paying floral tribute to queen Abbakka during her procession.
“When I was going, rani Abbakka’s procession was underway. I was accompanied by our local MLA Shadakshari. I was requested to stop and offer floral tributes. I did so and moved on,” he explained.
Emphasizing his allegiance to the congress party, Parameshwara said, “I am a true Congressman and will die as a Congressman.”
He also stated that his ideological commitment is unquestionable, and that political opponents, whether within or outside the party, might be trying to stir controversy.
“Let people create controversy if they want. The state knows what Dr. Parameshwara stands for. I’ve been in politics for 35 years, and I don’t need to prove myself repeatedly,” he said.
Rani Abbakka, the queen he paid homage to, was a 16th-century Tuluva ruler of Ullal who fiercely resisted Portuguese colonial forces. Her legacy is celebrated across coastal Karnataka.
When asked about Parameshwara’s appearance at the event allegedly organized by ABVP, State congress President and deputy cm D.K. Shivakumar said, “I am not aware of the issue. I will get information and talk.”
This incident comes shortly after Shivakumar himself faced criticism from within the party for singing an RSS prayer song during a debate in the karnataka Assembly. He later apologized for it.
The episode reflects the sensitivity around associations with Sangh Parivar organizations like the ABVP and RSS within the congress party’s political ecosystem.
Dr. Parameshwara’s response seeks to firmly reiterate his political loyalty while defusing the controversy surrounding his brief public appearance.
