Historic Achievement in Kashi

19-year-old Vedamurti Devvrat Mahesh Rekhe Ghanpathi completed the Dandakram Parayan of 2,000 Vedic mantras in 50 days—a first in the history of Kashi.

This extraordinary feat took place at Vallabhram Shaligram Sangveda Vidyalaya.

In recognition, the scholars of Kashi conferred upon him the title “Dandakram Vikramaditya.”

Honors and Recognitions

On behalf of the Shankaracharya of Sringeri, Devvrat received:

A gold bracelet

A dakshina of ₹1,01,116

Chief minister Yogi Adityanath honored him during the Kashi tamil Sangamam at Namo Ghat.

Prime minister Narendra Modi praised Devvrat on social media, calling his achievement an inspiration for future generations.

PM Modi emphasized the flawless pronunciation, discipline, and deep spiritual commitment displayed during the uninterrupted 50-day recitation.

Significance of the Dandakram Parayan

The Dandakram is a rare and complex recitation tradition involving 2,000 mantras from the Madhyandini branch of the Shukla Yajurveda.

It is considered the “crown jewel” of Vedic recitation due to intricate vowel sequences, phonetic changes, and pronunciation demands.

Challa annapurna Prasad from the Sringeri Matha noted that the complexity makes it extremely difficult for anyone—especially a young practitioner—to complete.

The event commemorated the birth centenary of several revered Vedic scholars, including Vedic Emperor Shrikrishna Shastri Godshe.

Historic Context

This was only the second recorded Dandakram recitation in Kashi and the first in 200 years.

The earlier recitation was by Vedamurti Narayan Shastri Dev in Nashik two centuries ago.

Scale of Devvrat’s Recitation

From october 2 to november 30, Devvrat recited daily from 8 AM to 12 PM.

The 2,000-mantra set was recited in various Vedic modes, including anuloma-viloma.

The full Dandakram cycle resulted in over 200,000 mantra recitations over 50 days.
