Rajya Sabha Elections: Voting Underway in haryana and Bihar

Rajya Sabha elections are ongoing in haryana and bihar, while candidates in several other states may be elected unopposed, making the process a mix of contests and certainty.

In bihar, BJP’s Nitin Naveen is almost certain to win a rajya sabha seat, along with Nitish Kumar, Union minister Ramnath Thakur, and bjp State General Secretary Shivesh Kumar, based on party strength in the state assembly.

The fifth seat in bihar is more competitive, with RLM candidate upendra Kushwaha and Grand Alliance candidate AD Singh vying for it, adding a twist to the otherwise predictable outcome.

In haryana, two rajya sabha seats are up for election. Sanjay Bhatia, BJP candidate, is expected to win one seat easily due to the party’s assembly majority. The second seat is contested between Congress’s Karmaveer Bauddh and industrialist Satish Nandal, making the haryana contest more uncertain and closely watched.

Other states will see a large number of candidates elected unopposed: in Maharashtra, six candidates from the ruling Mahayuti alliance, including Union minister Ramdas Athawale and bjp leader Vinod Tawde, as well as sharad pawar from the opposition maha Vikas Aghadi, will secure rajya sabha seats without voting.

Additional unopposed candidates in maharashtra include BJP’s Ramrao Wadkute and maya Ivante, and Shiv Sena’s spokesperson Jyoti Waghmare, with Parth Pawar, son of late Ajit Pawar, also contesting.

Across the country, 37 rajya sabha seats are being contested in 10 states: one from Himachal Pradesh, two each from Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Haryana, four from Odisha, five each from bihar and West Bengal, six from tamil Nadu, and seven from Maharashtra.

The elections showcase the importance of party strength in state assemblies in determining Rajya Sabha outcomes, with some contests highly predictable and others, especially in haryana and bihar, adding suspense to the Upper house elections.

The combination of unopposed elections and competitive voting reflects both political strategy and regional dynamics, highlighting the importance of alliances, industrialist candidates, and state-level political influence.

The rajya sabha elections are crucial in shaping legislative priorities and government stability at the national level, with key leaders like Nitish Kumar, Nitin Naveen, and sharad pawar strengthening their party’s presence in the Upper House.
