Norway Chess Launches Total Chess World championship Tour in Collaboration with FIDE

Major Announcement by norway Chess:

Norway Chess organizers have officially launched the Total Chess World championship Tour, a new global chess initiative aimed at becoming one of the most prestigious events in the chess world.

Long-Term Partnership with FIDE:

Kjell Madland, CEO of norway Chess, confirmed that a long-term agreement has been signed with the international Chess Federation (FIDE) to host the tournament annually through 2027.

Multiple Chess Formats Included:

The Total Chess World championship Tour will feature four tournaments each year, covering all major formats:

Classical Chess

Rapid Chess

Blitz Chess

Fast Chess

A Unified World Champion:

Unlike traditional format-specific events, the new tour will crown a joint champion across all formats, promoting versatility and all-round excellence in chess.

Concurrent with Classical World Championship:

Despite introducing this new format, the traditional World championship in classical chess will continue to be held. The Total Chess World championship Tour will run concurrently with FIDE’s classical World championship events.

Goal to Elevate the Chess Calendar:

Madland expressed strong optimism about the tour's potential, saying, “We hope this will become one of the most prestigious events in the entire chess calendar.”

Enhanced Global Chess Engagement:

The initiative reflects a growing effort to modernize chess, increase global viewership, and test players’ adaptability across all competitive formats.

First Edition Launching Soon:

With backing from FIDE and a fixed calendar until 2027, the chess world now looks forward to the first edition of this ambitious tour, expected to attract top players and global audiences alike.
