Indians Shine at World Chess Cup: All Matches Drawn, All Players Stay in Medal Hunt


The indian contingent displayed a solid and composed performance in the fourth round of the World Chess Cup held on Tuesday, with all five players managing to draw their respective games.


Despite the lack of outright victories, these results keep all indian Grandmasters in contention for advancement to the next round of the prestigious tournament.


Grandmaster arjun Erigesi faced off against Hungarian legend Peter Leko, a veteran known for his deep strategic understanding. Playing with the white pieces, Leko opted for a safe and balanced approach, leading to a draw. arjun encountered no serious problems during the game and is now expected to push for a win in the second encounter.

In another closely contested game, Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa battled Daniil Dubov of Russia. Dubov, known for his creative and risky play, attempted to complicate the position. However, Praggnanandhaa’s solid defensive play forced Dubov to settle for a draw.


Grandmaster P. Harikrishna also secured a steady draw against Nils Grandelius of sweden in a positional game where neither side found a clear breakthrough.


V. Pranav played a balanced match against Nodirbek Yakuboev of Uzbekistan. The young indian held firm in a tense middle game, steering the contest toward a peaceful conclusion.


Meanwhile, V. karthik drew his encounter against Le Quang Liem of vietnam after a well-fought strategic duel.


With all five indian players still unbeaten, the focus now shifts to the second games of the round, where decisive results could determine who advances further in the tournament.


The strong collective showing underscores India’s growing dominance in world chess, with both seasoned players and rising stars showcasing composure and resilience on the global stage.
