South Korean electronics giant samsung is comparing an ability shift of a portion of its phone and consumer electronics manufacturing from vietnam to india so one can hedge in opposition to the chance of feasible US tariffs on Vietnamese exports, Moneycontrol has pronounced.


In line with the record, the enterprise has initiated early-degree discussions with indian contract manufacturers, which include Dixon Technologies and Bhagwati Products (Micromax), to discover moving some of its manufacturing operations currently based in Vietnam.


"Sure, talks have started with indian EMS [electronic manufacturing services] players, such as their current companions. Now not simply samsung, all different organizations with a base in vietnam are exploring opportunities to shift a few manufacturing to india," a source acquainted with the problem informed Moneycontrol on the situation of anonymity. "Samsung and its companions are discussing production adjustments in favor of India."


At the same time as vietnam currently serves as Samsung's key global production hub, rising exchange tensions have brought about the company to not forget india as a strategic alternative, in particular for exports to the USA, its 2nd-biggest market globally.


Samsung isn't the only smartphone maker searching in the direction of india for its manufacturing. In advance this week, it was also suggested that google is trying to move its manufacturing from vietnam to india as well, amid potential threats of Trump's tariffs using up the price of smartphones.


Currently, Pixel smartphones made in india are in large part meant for the home marketplace, wherein import obligations stand at 16.5%. The devices are assembled by means of Dixon in noida and via Foxconn in tamil Nadu, with the former producing newer models and the latter focusing on older ones.


Dixon accounts for almost 70% of the Pixels made in india, at the same time as Foxconn was the first to start production right here in august 2023.
