
A major incident was averted in Mumbai, maharashtra on wednesday (May 28). In fact, a sensational incident took place outside chief minister Devendra Fadnavis' official residence 'Varsha' bungalow. A man tried to commit suicide by pouring petrol on himself in broad daylight. The incident is reported to have happened around 3:30 pm. However, alert policemen intervened in time and saved the man and averted a major mishap.
The man was detained by the police
According to the Malbar Hill police, the man detained is Ajit ramakrishna Maindargi (age 39), who is originally a resident of North town Balives in Solapur district. The police have registered a case against him under sections 121 (waging war against the government), 125 (aiding in war against the state) and 226 (use of force to deter a public servant from his duty) of the indian Penal Code (BNSS). Along with this, he has been temporarily released after giving notice under section 35 (3) of the BNSS.
Was insisting on going inside varsha bungalow
According to sources, Ajit reached outside varsha bungalow and insisted on going inside. When the police stopped him, he started behaving strangely. He suddenly took out a bottle from his pocket and poured a petrol-like substance on himself. The police took immediate action and controlled him, averting a major accident.
At present, the Malbar Hill police is investigating the matter in depth. However, the real reason behind Ajit's attempt to self-immolate is not yet clear. The police is trying to find out what his intention was and whether there was any organized plan behind it or he was under mental stress. Security agencies have also become alert considering the sensitivity of the matter.
